The photographer Francesc Català-Roca was a friend of Miró throughout this period and, as a result of their friendship, had the opportunity to photograph this painter of genius while he was working. From 1951 Català-Roca accompanied Miró on his travels, and was with him while he worked on the murals for the UNESCO building in Paris, on commissions in Osaka and elsewhere in Japan. Of the three thousand photographs remaining as a testimony to their close relationship, 152 have been reproduced in this book. It does not aim to be a comprehensive guide to Miró's artistic production, nor yet another catalogue of his paintings; it is, rather, an exposition of Miró as he worked, a survey of the life of the great artist.
The book has been divided into ten chapters, in order to treat the different facets of Miró's work as an artist in a systematic way. The first three are devoted to significant periods in his life, associated with Barcelona, Paris and Montroig in Catalonia. The following chapters review his work as a painter, graphic artist, sculptor, ceramist and mural painter. The two final chapters illustrate his scene paintings for the theatre and his tapestries.
Each chapter is introduced by Lluis Permanyer, an expert on Miró's work, who has also edited the captions to the illustrations. His text is both an invaluable source of information and an ideal commentary on the pictures which will give the reader a clearer understanding of them.Permalink : https://cataloguedoc.marionnette.com/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=79754 Miró : ninety years [Livre(s)] / L.
